Pike and bream dream

This can easily become the trip of a lifetime. We launch the boat in the early evening and lure fish until dusk (a prime time for predators) then we moor up at one of my favourite bream swims and fish until dawn. Then out with the lure rods again, normally returning back to the boat yard at around 10:00am.

What follows is a true account August 2004
I received an email from Scott Land asking if I had any spaces left for a pike and bream trip. Scott had never caught a pike or bream. As it happened, one of my regular clients had cancelled a trip due to ill health.  I had already prebaited the bream swim, so I was only too happy to arrange a trip the next day. We met at 7:00pm the evening started well and scott had his first fish by 7:30pm a small jack (yes we catch small ones as well!).

As the evening progressed, we slowly fished our way to one of my favourite bream swims boating two more pike on our way (a bit bigger than the first one). When we arrived at my chosen swim I put a small surface lure and told Scott to fish it around a small bunch of lily pads, whilst I set the feeder rods up. The next words I heard was "OH MY GOD" his little surface lure had been nailed and by the time I turned round, the fish was stripping line off the clutch at a heck of a rate. Scott was connected to one of the hardest fighting pike i'd ever seen it did everything tailwalked, and nearly jumped into the boat and after what seemed like an age finally boated the fish. A long lean 18.4onces fish. Scott was delighted.

As we returned the fish and settled down for a nights bream fishing, Scott had a smile from one ear to the other. Within half an hour Scott had his first bream in the net and I had a very satisfied customer. The total for the trip 9 Pike, 14 Bream, 2 large Eels and a load of Roach.

Scotts first bream.
