| Pike On A Fly |
Fly fishing for pike is one of the fastest growing areas in fishing and I know why even the smallest Jack can feel like a monster, and when you do hook into a double figure, fish hang on tight!
In august 2005 I was fishing with an American client John Patterson from Florida. John is a very experienced salt water fly angler, We were fishing a small broad just up stream from Wroxham and to be honest, not having a very good day! Two small jacks were all we had to show for four hours of hard work. As we moved out of the broad, John laid a cast under a small over hanging bush and as he worked the fly back in he felt two or three light plucks and then wallop his rod looped over and his fly line was disappearing at an alarming rate! Within a matter of seconds we were down to the backing and for the first time in my life I grabbed the oars and started rowing, after what seemed like hours we had her on board 26lb 8ounces we were both delighted and John made me a present of his fly which I still have to this day (see photo below). |

One of the nicest things about fly fishing on the Broads is you never know what you are going to catch next.It could be Perch, Bream, Chubb, Brown or Rainbow Trout and even the illusive Sea Trout. (I've even managed a 2lb Eel - what a mess, the leader and the fly ended up in the bin!). Lee Carver, a local match angler got a bit more than he bargained for when he decided to do a bit of pike fishing on one of the local rivers. He hooked an enormous 23lb 6ounces Sea Trout. Well done Lee. |

Closed season fly fishing on the broads can be great fun. The picture to the right is one of my favourite places for closed season fly fishing it is a private land locked Broad. All you need is a game license £6.50 for a day from your local post office. I guarantee you'll love it. |
